The "Interactive Map" patent points towards a fresh layering system for the company's iOS Maps app, going far deeper than what's currently offered.

According to the Wall Street Journal , Apple is already getting started on building "a refreshed iPhone similar in size and shape to its current one" this quarter, and it might be out as early as the summer. The most interesting thing about the iPhone back in the summer, though, is a precedent of accelerated release cycles. The iPad got an unexpected bump last fall, with a new processor, and this would be the second consecutive chip pushed out ahead of the typical schedule.

According to The Next Web , the next generation of Apple's Mac lineup won't look much different—understandable, given the 2012 overhaul—but the guts will be shiny and new. Including, importantly, a new Broadcom chipset that boosts Mac Wi-Fi to the 802.11ac standard. Apple won't be the first laptop manufacturer to roll the speedy—1.3Gbps throughput with three antennas—802.11ac Wi-Fi; Asus rolled it into a gaming notebook last summer.
